Steps to establish an AMC portfolio

There are six steps to complete an application for an assessment pathway.

These steps must be completed in order:

Step 1 – Confirm your medical school, medical degree title and graduation year eligibility

Step 2 – Create an EPIC account

Step 3 – Create an AMC candidate account

Step 4 – Establish an AMC portfolio

Step 5 – Proceed with your eligible pathway

Step 6 – Qualification(s) verified

For detailed information on the above steps, refer to the AMC Candidate Account Guide – see Check eligible medical schools, medical degree titles (final medical diploma/primary qualification) and graduation years.

Step 2 – Create an EPIC account

The Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) is the platform used to confirm that your medical credentials are authentic. It is a service offered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a member of Intealth.

Your EPIC ID is estimated to be confirmed within 2–3 working days.

For detailed information on the above steps, refer to the AMC Candidate Account Guide – see Steps to create an AMC candidate account and establish an AMC portfolio, refer to Step 2 – Create an EPIC account.

Step 3 – Create an AMC account

You must have an AMC candidate account so that information and documents can be shared between you and the AMC, and the AMC can provide you with access to candidate services. You cannot establish a Portfolio to apply for assessment without an AMC candidate account.

  • If you do not have an AMC candidate account, you must create one.
  • If you created an AMC candidate account prior to 1 October 2015, you need to create a new account.
  • If you created an AMC candidate account after 1 October 2015, you can log in.

Please read the AMC candidate account Terms of Use carefully before proceeding.

For detailed information on the above steps, refer to the AMC candidate account guide  – see Steps to create an AMC candidate account and establish an AMC portfolio, refer to Step 3 – Create an AMC candidate account.

Step 4 – Establish an AMC Portfolio

NOTE: Check the FAQs to determine if you need to establish an AMC Portfolio.

Once you have completed Steps 1 and 2 (and 3 if not already created) and have your EPIC ID, you can establish an AMC Portfolio.

All new applicants without an AMC candidate number must establish an AMC portfolio.

For detailed information on the above steps, refer to the AMC Candidate Account Guide – Steps to create an AMC candidate account and establish an AMC portfolio, refer to Step 4 – Establish an AMC portfolio.

The AMC Portfolio is an online application method.

The following types are NOT eligible/acceptable to be added to an AMC candidate account. An administration processing fee will be charged if you add non-eligible document details to your AMC candidate account when applying, such as:

  • medical registrations/license to practise
  • PhDs
  • research
  • internship/ housemanship/ foundation documents
  • partially completed training/qualifications
  • scientific (for e.g. Bachelor of Science)

If any are added to an AMC portfolio, these will NOT appear on your AMC account.

Your AMC portfolio application will be reviewed within 3-5 AMC business days.

Fees apply when establishing the initial AMC Portfolio and adding additional qualifications to be reviewed by the AMC. Refer to  fees and charges including the refund structure.

Step 5 – Proceed with your eligible pathway

Step 6 – Qualification(s) verified

You must add all eligible qualifications verified by EPIC to your AMC Portfolio. This will then allow the AMC to update your verification status once received from ECFMG. The AMC cannot update your verification status to “yes” without receiving the EPIC report.

The verification information is made available through the AMC secure portal to the:

  • Medical Board of Australia for registration purposes
  • Relevant specialist college(s) for specialist assessment purposes.

For detailed information on the above steps, refer to the AMC Candidate Account Guide – Steps to create an AMC candidate account and establish an AMC portfolio, refer to Step 6 – Qualification(s) verified.
