The Australian Medical Council is an organisation whose work impacts across the lands of Australia and New Zealand.
The Australian Medical Council acknowledges the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the original Australians and the Māori People as the tangata whenua (Indigenous) Peoples of Aotearoa (New Zealand). We recognise them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
We pay our respects to them and to their Elders, both past, present and emerging, and we recognise their enduring connection to the lands we live and work on, and honour their ongoing connection to those lands, its waters and sky.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this website may contain images, voices and names of people who have passed away.
ECFMG’s Recognized Accreditation Policy
It is important to note that this recognition does not impact the application and verification processes undertaken by the Australian Medical Council (AMC). The AMC’s procedures remain unchanged, and applicants should continue to follow the established guidelines and requirements when establishing an AMC portfolio and/or progressing with the AMCs assessment processes as part of the Medical Board of Australia’s registration requirements.
There are six steps to complete an application for an assessment pathway.
These steps must be completed in order:
Step 1 – Confirm your medical school, medical degree title and graduation year eligibility
Step 2 – Create a MyIntealth/EPIC account
Step 3 – Create an AMC candidate account
Step 4 – Establish an AMC portfolio
Step 5 – Proceed with your eligible pathway
Step 6 – Qualification(s) to be verified
Refer to the How to apply to the AMC flowchart
International Medical Graduates who have a medical degree (final medical diploma/primary qualification) in clinical medicine and surgery awarded by a training institution as outlined in the steps are eligible to proceed.
MyIntealth is the online platform used by the AMC to confirm that your medical credentials are authentic and acceptable. It is a service offered by ECFMG.
Create a MyIntealth account. ECFMG should provide your MyIntealth ID to you within 2–3 business days.
You must have an AMC candidate account so that information and documents can be shared between you and the AMC, and the AMC can provide you with access to candidate services. You cannot establish a Portfolio to apply for assessment without an AMC candidate account.
Please read the AMC candidate account Terms of Use carefully before proceeding.
NOTE: Check the FAQs to determine if you need to establish an AMC Portfolio.
Once you have completed Steps 1 and 2 (and 3 if not already created) and have your MyIntealth ID, you can establish an AMC Portfolio.
All new applicants without an AMC candidate number must establish an AMC portfolio.
The AMC Portfolio is an online application method.
The following types are NOT eligible/acceptable to be added to an AMC candidate account. An administration processing fee will be charged if you add non-eligible document details to your AMC candidate account when applying, such as:
If any are added to an AMC portfolio, these will NOT appear on your AMC candidate account.
Your AMC portfolio application will be reviewed within 5 AMC business days.
Your AMC candidate number and other options are available to you in your AMC candidate account.
You can view/download your Tax Invoice/Receipt and application Acknowledgement Confirmation, by selecting the link ‘Application Tax Invoice/Receipt’ on your landing page.
Fees apply when establishing the initial AMC Portfolio and adding additional qualifications to be reviewed by the AMC. Refer to fees and charges including the refund structure.
A verification status of your medical degree is required to proceed with the AMC examination and assessment process.
Specialist medical colleges will require verification of:
You must add all eligible qualification(s) verified by ECFMG to your AMC candidate account (by initial portfolio application or if already submitted by an additional qualification application(s).
This will then allow the AMC to update your verification status once received from ECFMG. The AMC cannot update your verification status – “Request verified” to “yes” without receiving the verification report.
The verification information is made available through the AMC secure portal to the:
The verification process can be completed simultaneously with the AMC candidate account and portfolio process.
