The Australian Medical Council is an organisation whose work impacts across the lands of Australia and New Zealand.

The Australian Medical Council acknowledges the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the original Australians and the Māori People as the tangata whenua (Indigenous) Peoples of Aotearoa (New Zealand). We recognise them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.

Strategic Projects

The AMC Strategic Plan (2022-2028) outlines a vision for excellence in healthcare through a highly trained medical workforce. The following strategic projects are key to achieving this vision. They strengthen the relationship between core business functions of standards development, accreditation and assessment and meeting community health needs.

The AMC works with partners in health, education and governments on medical education, standards and workforce development to better serve health communities in Australia and New Zealand. This work is underpinned by the AMC strategic plan.

Project partners

The AMC delivers these projects in partnership with health, education and government agencies, including the following interprofessional and international bodies.

Western Pacific Association for Medical Education (WPAME)

The AMC provides the secretariat for the WPAME. The role of the WPAME is to promote medical education in the Western Pacific Region by providing a forum for the exchange of information and resources among members, and by maintaining links with organisations such as the World Health Organisation and the World Federation of Medical Education

World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)

The role of the WFME is to enhance the quality of medical education worldwide by promoting the highest scientific and ethical standards in medical education. The AMC has undertaken WFME’s recognition evaluation process and is recognised as an accrediting agency by the WFME. WFME Recognition Status means that the quality of medical education in its accredited schools is at an appropriate and rigorous standard.

Health Professions Accreditation Collaborative Forum (HPAC Forum)

The AMC provides the secretariat for the HPAC Forum. The Forum is a coalition of the 15 accreditation authorities for the regulated health professions. It works collaboratively with member organisations and other stakeholders to improve the quality of accreditation and assessment of the regulated health professions.
