AMC appoints new Chief Executive Officer
The Australian Medical Council (AMC), an independent national standards body for medical education and training, has appointed Mr Philip Pigou as its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr Pigou will join the AMC in January 2018 from his role as CEO of the Medical Council of New Zealand, succeeding Mr Ian Frank AM who will end his three-decade term at the helm of the AMC at the end of 2017.
The Directors of the Australian Medical Council have accredited Macquarie University’s new medical program until 31 March 2023.

AMC welcomes constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Māori membership on its Council
The Australian Medical Council has amended its Constitution to create a designated position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and a Māori member of the Council.
The AMC is an independent national standards body for medical education and training. It aims to ensure that standards of education, training and assessment of the medical profession promote and protect the health of the Australian community.
