AMC CAT 2-11 MCQ Examination Event - Australia and New Zealand Venues
The first of the AMC Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) format MCQ examinations is scheduled for Saturday 19th February 2011 in Australia and New Zealand. As this is the first examination in the new format, the AMC will hold one session only (3.5 hours) with a reporting time of 8am for an 8.30am start. The AMC is also introducing a new identification verification system which is presently used for AMC examinations in the non-Australian venues at Pearson VUE testing centres. In order to be consistent with non-Australian venues, and to ensure a smooth operation for candidates, the venue capacity for Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will be smaller than usual for the February MCQ examination session – with a capacity of 75 candidates at each venue. In order to provide additional venue capacity, extra seats in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane will be open for the March 2011 event. Information on the identification verification system will be provided to candidates on the AMC website after the closing date of 20th January 2011.

Update in assessment of cosmetic medical practice recognition

In June 2009, the Australian Medical Council (AMC) recognition review group began a detailed assessment of the case for recognition of cosmetic medical practice as a medical specialty. Before undertaking a program of site visits, the review group requested that the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery (ACCS) provide supplementary information.

Due to a number of extenuating factors, the AMC granted the ACCS extensions to the original deadline. The supplementary information was received by the AMC in late March 2010. With the receipt of this information, the recognition review group will resume its Stage 1 assessment of the application.

During Stage 1 of the recognition process, the AMC assesses the case for recognition of a medical specialty against the four recognition criteria, as described in the Guidelines; The Recognition of Medical Specialties: Policy and Process.
