This book is available online, and is recommended as preparation for the MCQ and clinical examinations. The AMC Board of Examiners uses this publication when preparing examination content. Other suitable texts are listed on our recommended textbook list.
MCQ examination What is the format of the MCQ examination?
The MCQ examination is a multiple choice question examination administered by computer.
Further information on the examination format is in the Examination Specifications Booklet, which is sent out with Form C-1 in the non-specialist pack.

How do I obtain an application form for the examination?
To apply for the examination, you need the application form (Form C-1), which is not available online.
To obtain a Form C-1:
- contact the AMC's MCQ section, who will mail a form to you, or

Note: An applicant must have been credentialled as 'eligible' to undertake the AMC examination process and have an AMC candidate number
How much is the MCQ examination fee?
The MCQ examination fee is A$1,830.00.
How long does the MCQ examination take?
The examination consists of two 3.5-hour sessions, with 150 questions in each session. Both sessions are held on the one day: one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
Can I sit the MCQ examination outside Australia?

Can I sit the AMC clinical examination before the MCQ examination?
No. You must first sit and pass the MCQ examination before being eligible to apply for the clinical examination.
How long does it take for MCQ examination results to be sent out? The AMC mail MCQ examination result letters to all candidates 4 weeks after the examination date. The AMC also list successful candidates (by their candidate reference numbers) on the AMC website.
