The AMC has endorsed the bodies listed below as competent authorities for awarding advanced standing towards the AMC Certificate. International medical graduates who are eligible for the competent authority pathway are not required to pass the MCQ or clinical examination to be registered, but must satisfactorily complete a period of workplace-based performance assessment. Note: If you have access to the internet, Competent authority applications can be made online.
The full competent authority pathway is currently operational in: · Queensland · Victoria · New South Wales · South Australia (see note below*) · Western Australia · Northern Territory · Tasmania · Australian Capital Territory (for hospital-based competent authority applications). *The Medical Board of South Australia has provided the following information for IMGs in South Australia who are seeking assessment through the Competent Authority pathway:
- All Competent Authority (CA) eligible applicants from South Australia (SA) should apply first to the AMC for Advanced Standing.
- Once Advanced Standing is granted, applicants from South Australia then apply to the accredited provider, the Postgraduate Medical Council of South Australia (PMCSA), to complete the workplace-based assessment.
- When the applicant has successfully completed the workplace-based assessment the PMCSA will provide written advice to the AMC, so that the AMC can issue the AMC Certificate.
