Preparation for the AMC MCQ Examination

What books can I use for study material?

The Australian Medical Council (AMC) has prepared two major publications for you to use in preparing for the MCQ examination:

  • The AMC Anthology of Medical Conditions
    This book is available online, and is recommended as preparation for the MCQ and Clinical Examinations. The AMC Board of Examiners uses this publication when preparing examination content.

What is the format of the AMC MCQ examination?

The AMC MCQ Examination is a multiple choice question examination administered by computer.

Where can I find the MCQ examination dates?

How do I obtain an application form for the AMC MCQ Examination?

To apply for the examination, you need the application form (Form C-1), which is not available online.

To obtain a Form C-1:
  • contact the AMC's MCQ Examination section, who will mail a form to you, or
  • request a form by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (the form will be emailed in reply).
Note: An applicant must have been credentialled as 'eligible' to undertake the AMC Examination process and have an AMC candidate number

How much is the AMC MCQ Examination fee?

The AMC MCQ Examination fee is A$2,100.00.

How long does the AMC MCQ Examination take?

The examination consists of two 3.5-hour sessions, with 150 questions in each session.
Both sessions are held on the one day: one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

Can I sit the AMC MCQ Examination outside Australia?

Can I sit the AMC Clinical Examination before the AMC MCQ examination?

No. You must first sit and pass the AMC MCQ Examination before being eligible to apply for the clinical Examination.

How long does it take for AMC MCQ Examination results to be sent out?
 
The AMC mail AMC MCQ Examination result letters to all candidates 4 weeks after the examination date.Please click here for AMC MCQ Examination dates for 2010.
The AMC also list successful candidates (by their candidate reference numbers) on the AMC website.
