University of Notre Dame Australia School of Medicine, Sydney_Executive Summary 2010

The AMC’s Assessment and Accreditation of Medical Schools: Standards and Procedures
describe the procedures by which an institution may seek assessment of a proposal to establish a
new medical program. This entails an assessment of plans before the program is introduced, and
subsequent follow-up assessment if required. The AMC assessed and accredited plans for the
introduction of a four-year graduate entry medical program at the University of Notre Dame
Australia, Fremantle in 2005. It then considered plans for the four-year, graduate entry medical
program to be offered by the University’s School of Medicine Sydney in 2007. Since students
who graduate from these two programs receive different qualifications, and the programs are
managed and run as distinct academic programs, the AMC has assessed and accredited the two
programs separately.
